Everyone is different

This art shows how the same item can be seen differently.

The ballooned faces symbolise how something may make one person happy and joyful, yet to another, the object may bring misery and upset. The balloon shows dual emotion through happy and sad - You may like something but someone else may dislike or fear the same thing.

We picked a balloon because we all know someone that enjoys blowing up a balloon until it almost pops and others that will run in the opposite direction. People with additional needs are no different, some will love certain things but not everyone will.

Everyone's decisions are based on past experiences and sensory needs, as well as being influenced by our mood in that moment and people with LD and ASD are no different to that.

Inspired by: Parents, Carers & Professional Supporters.

Artist: Aidan Tobyn.

Interesting facts:

  • The fear of balloons is called Globophobia.
  • The sound of a balloon popping is a higher decibel than a gun shot.
  • Globophobia is the most searched anxiety on You Tube.
